Literacy 'n' Poverty Project

About Us

What is the Literacy ‘n' Poverty Project? A start-up nonprofit organization with a focus in human services headquartered in New York City. Our mission is to support the advancement of adult populations through literacy (education), economic and community development.

What is our vision? Through service, research and advocacy our vision is to transcend local impact and reputation of our service into a global enterprise. By 2030, LnP Project's reach will have extended across the United States to an international community of supporters, therefore maximizing on cross-cultural collaboration.

What We Do: At its root, our organization serves adult populations through literacy, economic and community development. We fulfill our mission by offering a programmatic structure representing an integrated model of:

•  Service – via internships, our career development program and volunteer opportunities
•  Research
•  Advocacy – via blogs, the Resource Library, and other social media

Programs Offered: We offer three distinct programs: 1) Internship Program –
targeted to individuals or organizations serving similar audiences who want to start
a program in their group, 2) Research Program – designed to strengthen the
knowledge base of our organization, foster community learning and examine several
societal factors that play a role in literacy education and poverty impact. Research can
be used to inform policy, increase public knowledge and discourse, and provide
thought leadership to education, community development and social reform, and
3) Career Development Program - offers job skills training and career counseling to
low-income adults and families.

Leadership: Chanelle N. Carver, founder and social entrepreneur,
